BMI is the measure of your weight in relation to your height. Basically, it indicates the amount of fat in your body. A high BMI can mean that you’re overweight and at risk for obesity-related diseases. But keep in mind that BMI can be unreliable for certain people, notably heavily-muscled athletes and weight lifters. Also, BMI doesn’t account for how your fat is distributed, which is a more precise marker of your disease risk than total fat.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a healthy BMI is in the range of 18.5-24.9. So what’s your BMI? Find out with our BMI calculator. Just enter your weight and height below, then hit the "Submit" button.
